We had quite the controversy in deciding the winner of the second 250 moto yesterday at Fox Raceway.

In the first moto Red Bull KTM’s Tom Vialle took an off track excursion and the AMA penalized him one position for this move. Instead of a 3-3 day, Vialle ended up with 4-3 scores.

This was taken from the Pro Motocross press release from Saturday night:

Following the race, officials determined that Vialle was in violation of Rule 1.6.20 Track Cuts/Unfair Advantage of the series rulebook after the Frenchman went off track early in the moto. As a result, Vialle was docked one position to fourth, which moved Hymas into third.

This played well into the Pro Circuit Team’s favor when Monster Energy/Star Racing Yamaha’s Haiden Deegan took his own off track rendezvous late in the second 250 moto.

Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Levi Kitchen would have taken the overall win had Deegan been docked a position for this move.

You can find Deegan’s off track mistake at the 3:08 mark in this recap video:

The point is, the results of the second moto weren’t posted until like midnight last night and they postponed the 250 class press conference by quite a while. Once the press conference concluded was when the results were officially posted. It was a weird deal. Deegan at one point said that Mitch Payton was out to get him.

It didn’t matter. His 1-1 stands at his home national. Can we talk about Haiden’s whip on the first big jump after grabbing the holeshot in moto 2?

No mention of Deegan’s off the track mistake was mentioned in the Pro Motocross press release, so maybe it actually wasn’t that bad, but the AMA DEFINITELY reviewed it…for a while.

This championship is already getting spicy and the summer is just getting started.

  1. It’s disappointing to see that the AMA continues to penalize certain riders and not even a hand slap to others.
Consistency has not been within their capabilities lately. It doesn’t promote confidence in the small fan base the currently exists.
Hopefully, for the betterment of the sport, they can turn this ship around.
