I’ve been looking forward to this week’s Vintage Vibe since I started this column, which was what…six months ago?
Today I bring you the talents of the man that gave me my shot back in the day to join this Vurb crew: Mr. Travis Steward.
Back in the summer of 2009 the merry band that was our Film Department set out on a journey hitting up all twelve Lucas Oil Pro Motocross rounds in a motorhome to produce the Racer X Motocross Show. Not just any motorhome though, but the famous Mighty Whitey motorhome. If my memory serves me correctly it was of course Chili Dog, Travis Steward, Gary Price, Ryan Walters, sometimes Bird Dog, and sometimes David Bulmer. We would film all the action and put together the Motocross Shows with Jason Weigandt as the host.
I don’t know about you but I absolutely ate these shows up as a student of the sport. It was a behind the scenes look at motocross that did not exist at the time. The crew had the time of their lives that summer. They had some serious deadlines that led to some serious fun off of the track. Like this hit series: National Security.
If you aren’t familiar with this series the premise is simple. The goal is to sneak into the pits with the absolute dumbest ideas ever. Travis did everything from being dragged in a suitcase by Gregg Albertson at Spring Creek, to being a Jedi Knight at High Point, to almost getting arrested at Southwick.
Travis Steward, who is a one of a kind individual, is the star of these videos. Ever since he dropped the now famous line, Japan 4, it was a hit. We still hear stories from people about how much they enjoyed these videos and we are 12 years into the future. What was your favorite episode? To be honest I have to go with the RedBud episode when Travis impersonated a security guard.
These videos are classic and they are a big reason why I even felt like I could reach out to Trav in the first place. I knew he would be the one to help me out and now look at me sitting in the CEO chair. Today, Trav Stew likes to stay secluded and he’s raising a family with his awesome wife. His son is already borderline TikTok or Instagram famous. I hear from Travis once every six months if I’m lucky, but I just want you guys to know he’s doing very well. I can’t wait to hear the crap he’s going to give me for writing this.
Enjoy National Security Hangtown and check out the rest of the series if you already haven’t.
Those guys heads about twisted off, looking to where he was pointing. Too Funny!!!
