Why Cameron McAdoo Didn’t Race the 250SX Main Event at Daytona

Prior to the 250SX East Region season opener in Tampa, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Cameron McAdoo announced at the opening press conference that he sustained a torn ACL in a practice crash prior to the opener.

At the time, McAdoo said that his goal was to get through the Monster Energy AMA Supercross season and then go from there.

McAdoo finished third at the opener but had a big crash in the whoops in the Detroit main event that resulted in a red flag and left him with “black eye and some broken teeth.” While he was able to return for round 3 of the East Region in Daytona, he was unable to race the main event after qualifying seventh in his heat race due to a knee injury sustained prior to the start of the season.

“Unfortunately, my knee just wasn’t strong enough today to safely race,” said McAdoo in a press release. “My safety–and that of the other riders–comes first. Everyone knows I’ll always give my all when I’m on the gate, but tonight, it just wasn’t in the cards for us.”

“It was a tough night with both Cameron and Levi sidelined,” said team manager Iain Southwell. “Rider safety comes first. Levi is doing okay and being evaluated now, and Cameron made the right call to sit out. On a positive note, Seth rode strong and put the team on the podium.”

Per Steve Matthes, McAdoo is likely to get knee surgery after Supercross and miss the Pro Motocross season.

Update: Monday, March 3

It looks like McAdoo will undergo surgery to fix his knee.

After the race on the SMX Insider Post-Race Show, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki team owner Mitch Payton confirmed that McAdoo will have surgery.

“Cameron hurt his knee worse, and we decided that’s it. So, he will go get that fixed, that’s the end of that,” Payton said. “He tried and it’s bad and he needs to get it fixed. It was starting to swell up again and it was looser than it was and it’s worse than initial, so we’re gonna just get it fixed.”
